Step by step
A clean press in four steps
Same process for single transfers and gang sheet pieces.
Preheat and prep
Bring the press up to temperature and pre-press the garment for a few seconds to flatten seams and drive out moisture. Position the transfer print-side down.
Press
Press at the listed temperature, time, and pressure for your film type. Pressure should be firm and even across the whole platen — most failed presses are a pressure problem, not a temperature problem.
Peel
Cold peel: let the film cool fully before peeling. Hot peel: peel in one smooth motion right off the press. Peeling at the wrong moment is the most common cause of lifting.
Second press
Cover the design with a cover sheet and press again for 5 seconds. This locks the transfer in and gives a matte finish.

Can I use a Cricut EasyPress?
A handheld press can work if it genuinely reaches the listed temperature and you apply firm, even pressure on a hard, flat surface. Test one transfer on scrap fabric first and adjust — results vary far more with handheld equipment than with a clamshell press.
Can I use a home iron?
We don't recommend it for production work. Irons heat unevenly and can't hold consistent pressure. If it's all you have, test on scrap first, use maximum heat with no steam, press hard on a hard surface — and expect less durability than a heat press.
Which fabrics can I press onto?
DTF works on cotton, polyester, and blends. Results vary with fabric coating and heat tolerance, so test unfamiliar or heat-sensitive materials before running a full batch.
My transfer is lifting at the edges. What went wrong?
Usually one of three things: peeling at the wrong moment for your film type, not enough pressure, or skipping the second press. Re-press with a cover sheet at the listed settings — and if a transfer arrives defective, our reprint guarantee covers it.
Do the settings differ for gang sheet pieces?
No. Cut the piece you need from the sheet and press it with the same settings as an individual transfer.
